Frenni Transport The Palletways member for South West Wales today received their first fill of Bio Diesel from CelticBiodiesel.co.uk. At a press launch held in the Royal Dockyard at Pembroke Dock, Welsh Assembly Member Christine Gwyther officially opened Celtic Bio's new production facility with Frenni Transport getting their first fill from this new environmentally friendly fuel. Bio Diesel is made from recycled vegetable oils. Celtic Biodiesel are collecting used oils from restaurants and chip shops in the Pembrokeshire area cleaning and processing these oils into fuel for diesel vehicles. The waste oil would otherwise be an environmental problem as it is now illegal for it to be disposed of at land-fill sites and it cannot realistically be added to the fuel tank direct because full mineral diesel tax would then be payable and the vehicles need expensive modifications. The beauty of biodiesel fuel is that it can be added to ordinary diesel vehicles without any need for modifications said a spokesman from Celtic Bio Diesel. We are so pleased to be a part of this launch said Mathew Parry from Frenni Transport. We have been looking at environmentally friendly fuels for some time and are already using LPG gas on some of our lorries. The problem with bio fuels has been that the production and delivery facilities have been too far away to make the use of the fuel economic. Now we have Celtic Biodiesel here on our doorstep in West Wales. The fuel itself can be added directly into your existing diesel fuel tank but in small percentage quantities such as 5% (BD5). Most new vehicle warranties cater for a BD5 mix and in France & Germany nearly all the mineral diesel sold at the pumps has had at least a BD5 mix for some years. If your vehicle is still under warranty, you can check with your vehicle manufacturer about how much biodiesel they will allow you to add. Some of the more foreword looking and better quality vehicle manufacturers will allow you to run at BD100 (100%). Others, for your information, may allow higher percentages in Germany, but not in the UK! Adding i.e. 5% may not sound a lot but when buying fuel by the tanker full the reduced cost of the bio diesel soon mounts up for the larger users of fuel said Mathew. But don't think that corners are being cut. Celtic Biodiesel are properly licensed and Her Majesty's Customs and Excise get their rightful duty on every litre produced. Currently the duty levied by customs doesn't make the potential savings significant for private users but there are increasing numbers of people who are buying (even at premium prices), just because biodiesel is such an environmentally friendly fuel compared with burning mineral diesel. As Celtic Biodiesel say: “This could be one of those rare propositions than not only helps to preserve the planet we live on, but also the pockets of those wishing to play their part.”
It is also good to see another alternative to us being held completely to ransom by high government fuel excise duties and the large profitable oil companies. |
